How to Install the LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of the LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System, including mounting, wiring, and connection procedures.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

Hot stick, Torque wrench, Suitable tool for 1 inch hex (e.g., socket wrench), Welding equipment (if using welded studs), Wire strippers, 600ATM Operating Tool

Supplies needed:

ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant, 3/8-16 x 2 inch studs (3), 3/8-16 hex nuts (6), Lockwashers (3), No. 14 AWG or No. 12 AWG solid copper wire, Appropriate grounding connector

  1. Perform Initial Safety Checks and Preparation

DANGER: De-energize all apparatus before installation or removal. Do not touch or move energized products. Inspect all parts for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating parts. Ensure all required tools are at hand and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure. If supplied with protective shipping covers, remove them and replace with appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors before submerging or energizing.

  2. Install the 600 Amp Elbow onto the Cable

Install the 600 amp elbow onto the cable according to the specific installation instructions supplied with the elbow. Ensure it is positioned to align correctly with the stand-off plug.

  3. Install the Mounted Stand-Off Plug (If Applicable)

If using a mounted stand-off plug, weld three 3/8-16 x 2 inch studs to the faceplate per customer standard practice. Install three hex nuts onto the studs to support the stand-off plug, ensuring it aligns with the bushing. Install the stand-off plug over the studs, resting on the nuts or spacers. Secure with a lockwasher and hex nut on each stud, tightening to 12 foot-lbs torque. Verify that the top surfaces of the bushing and stand-off plug are in-line; readjust nuts as needed.

  4. Install the Bushing Extender and Elbow

Clean and thoroughly lubricate the apparatus bushing and both interfaces of the 600 amp bushing extender with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Install the bushing extender onto the apparatus bushing. Insert the 600ATM into the retainer contact, engage the internal hex broach, and thread the retainer contact into the apparatus bushing using a suitable tool on the 1 inch hex portion of the 600ATM, torquing to 50-60 ft-lbs. Repeat cleaning and lubrication for the epoxy standoff plug and 600 amp elbow interfaces. Install the elbow onto the epoxy standoff plug, insert the 600AMT into the retainer contact, and thread into the epoxy standoff plug, torquing to 50-60 ft-lbs.

  5. Install the Alignment Bracket

Remove the bushing extender clamp and elbow clamp from the alignment bracket. Position the alignment bracket on the bushing extender 2.5 inches (63.5mm) from the grounding eye. Assemble the bushing extender clamp to the alignment bracket with supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until clamp tabs are flush and tight. Position the elbow in the alignment bracket so the elbow cuff aligns evenly with the bushing extender cuff. Assemble the elbow clamp to the alignment bracket with supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until clamp tabs are flush and tight. Ensure the elbow clamp notch faces the cable entrance of the elbow.

  6. Insert and Engage the Link

Clean and thoroughly lubricate both 600 ampere interfaces of the Link with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Align the Link to be perpendicular to the switch faceplate when inserted. Insert the Link into the bushing extender and elbow, ensuring both lever arms are on the inside of the alignment bracket legs. Engage the pivot pin into the slots in the alignment bracket legs. While pushing inward, move the lever arms downward using a hot stick eye to engage the roller pin and move the Link inward. Continue moving lever arms until perpendicular to the alignment bracket leg.

  7. Perform Grounding Procedures

Ground the elbow: Feed a #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire through the grounding eye on the elbow, twist it tight, and connect it to ground. Clean and lubricate the 200 amp interface on the Link. Ground, then install the desired mating product on the 200 amp interface per its installation instructions. Ground the cable: If using concentric neutral cable, twist the neutral wires together and connect to ground with an appropriate connector. If using 20MA or 21MA grounding devices, connect the ground lead to ground with a suitable connector. For three-phase installations, tie all grounds from all three phases to a common ground point.

  8. Refer to Operating Instructions

For operation of the Link and any 200 ampere mating products, refer to their respective applicable operating instructions.
