How to Install the ELASTIMOLD 160DRG/167DRG Insulated Cap with Ground Lead
This guide provides instructions for installing the ELASTIMOLD 160DRG and 167DRG insulated caps, designed for insulating, shielding, and watersealing 15kV class loadbreak bushing interfaces. Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before installation.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hotstick
Supplies needed:
Insulated Cap with Ground Lead, ELASTIMOLD Approved Lubricant
- Connect Grounding Wire
Connect the free end of the electrostatic grounding wire to the system ground, leaving enough slack for hot-stick operation of the insulated cap. CAUTION: Train the electrostatic grounding wire so as not to contact the bushing interface during operation.
- Prepare Insulated Cap
Remove the protective cover from the insulated cap and lubricate the cap's internal mating surface. Use only the supplied lubricant or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricants; do not substitute, as other lubricants may be harmful. Keep the internal mating surface free from dirt and grime. Always replace the protective cover when the cap is not in use.
- Install Insulated Cap
Firmly attach a hotstick to the insulated cap pulling eye. Insert the male contact of the insulated cap into the loadbreak bushing, and push it home with a fast, firm, straight motion. Make certain it is fully mated, with the locking ring seated. Detach the hotstick from the insulated cap.
