What do the color-coded interfaces indicate?
Red interfaces are for 15 kV reducing taps, and blue interfaces are for 25 kV reducing taps. This provides better visibility and seating indication.
What is the primary safety precaution for ComboT installation?
The system needs to be de-energized before initiating any ComboT installation. Always refer to the complete instruction sheet.
What torque is required for CCP bus installation?
When installing the CCP bus, insert the 600ATM and torque it to 50 to 60 ft.-lbs. The BIP also requires 50 to 60 ft.-lbs. of torque.
What are the continuous current ratings for CCP/CBW connectors?
CCP and CBW connectors have continuous current ratings of 600 A or 900 A, depending on the specific series.
What are the voltage ratings for the K655K656 CCP series?
The K655K656 CCP series has a max phase-to-ground operating voltage of 16.2 kV and a max phase-to-phase operating voltage of 28.0 kV. Its BIL impulse withstand is 140 kV.
What are the continuous current ratings for CETP connectors?
CETP connectors have continuous current ratings of 600 A for deadbreak and 200 A for loadbreak connections. Some configurations also support 900 A deadbreak.
How much does the ComboT reduce stack height?
Each combination elbow/connecting plug reduces the stack height by 2.67 inches.
What are the voltage ratings for the 15 kV CETP?
The 15 kV CETP has a max phase-to-ground operating voltage of 8.3 kV and a max phase-to-phase operating voltage of 14.4 kV. Its BIL impulse withstand is 95 kV.
How does the 25 kV reducing tap prevent flashover?
The 25 kV reducing tap includes vents to prevent partial-vacuum flashover.
What stud size is used for ComboT assembly?
The ComboT assembly utilizes a standard 5/8 in–11 stud that threads into the equipment bushing.
How to Install 655/656/675/676CETP Deadbreak Elbow Connectors
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and connection of 655/656/675/676CETP deadbreak elbow connectors on high voltage apparatus, including cable preparation, grounding, and optional voltage testing.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, Crimping tool, 600AT assembly tool, 600ATM assembly tool, Hotstick, Suitable voltage sensing device, Wire brush
Supplies needed:
Compression lug, Lubricant, Vinyl plastic tape, Grounding wire (No. 14 AWG Copper or equivalent), Suitable ground connector, Tape marker, Tape retainer, HV insulated cap
- De-energize Apparatus and Inspect Components
DANGER: Ensure all apparatus is de-energized during installation or removal of parts to prevent serious or fatal injury. Inspect all package contents to ensure they are complete and undamaged. Verify all components for proper fit with the cable and/or mating products. Have all required tools at hand and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure.
- Position Cable and Cut
Position the cable in its final assembled location, ensuring enough slack for elbow removal. For concentric neutral cable, unwind the concentric neutral wires. Cut the cable 1-3/4 inches (45mm) from the centerline of the mating product.
- Clean Cable Outer Surface
Clean the outer surface of the cable for a distance of 24 inches (610mm) or up to the bent-back concentric neutral wires.
- Prepare Cable Outer Jacket and Shield
Remove the cable's outer jacket to the dimension shown in the product diagrams. Fold back shield wires. If using flat metallic tape shield, remove it and secure with vinyl plastic tape to the dimension shown. If using fabric tape shield, remove it and install a tape retainer and tape marker to the dimensions shown. If using longitudinally corrugated shield, remove it and install a tape marker to the dimension shown. If using semi-con shield, remove it and install a tape marker to the dimensions shown, being careful not to cut or nick the cable insulation. For UNISHIELD® or lead sheath cables, refer to the Installation Instructions supplied with the 10TL cable shield adapter.
- Install Cable Adapter
Bevel the end of the cable insulation at a 45-degree angle, approximately 1/4 inch (6mm) back. Thoroughly clean and then lubricate the cable insulation (using the supplied lubricant), always working toward the semi-con shield. Install the cable adapter, small end first, until it is flush with the edge of the tape marker.
- Prepare Conductor
Remove the protruding cable insulation by cutting it even with the end of the cable adapter. Do not cut or nick the cable adapter or the conductor. The exposed conductor length should be 4-3/8 to 4-11/16 inches (111mm to 119mm). If not, redo the assembly.
- Crimp Compression Lug
For copper conductors, fully insert the conductor into the compression lug. For aluminum conductors, wire brush the conductor immediately before fully inserting it into the compression lug. Measure the 'Check Dimension' before crimping; it should be less than 6-1/2 inches (165mm). Crimp the compression lug following the instructions supplied with the lug. Wipe all excess inhibitor from the compression lug and cable adapter surface after crimping. The distance from the end of the compression lug to the cable adapter after crimping should be 6-1/2 to 7-1/4 inches (165mm to 184mm). If not, redo the assembly.
- Install Elbow
Lubricate the cable adapter and the inside of the elbow cable entrance with the supplied lubricant. Install the elbow onto the cable adapter until it cannot advance further. Ensure the cable adapter is still flush with the tape marker; if not, reposition the cable adapter. Remove the tape marker.
- Prepare Mating Products and Stud
DANGER: Do not connect or disconnect mating products while energized. Do not energize while disconnected. Remove protective caps from the elbow and the mating part. Install the stud into the apparatus by hand until it is fully seated. Clean and lubricate both the elbow and the mating part with the supplied lubricant, keeping surfaces clean.
- Connect Elbow to Mating Part
Push the elbow onto the mating part. For products dated September 30, 2013, or earlier, use the 600AT assembly tool to engage the hex broach in the contact assembly, insert it into the elbow interface to engage the stud, and torque until the torque limiter ratchets (19 to 25 foot/pounds). For products dated October 1, 2013, or later, use the 600ATM assembly tool, engage the hex broach, insert the contact assembly, and tighten to 50-60 foot/pounds torque. DO NOT EXCEED 60 FOOT POUNDS TORQUE.
- Ground the Cable Shield
Insert one end of a piece of wire (with ampacity at least equivalent to No. 14 AWG Copper) through the grounding eye and twist to make a small loop, without damaging the eye. Connect this wire to ground using a suitable connector. The cable shield must be grounded according to the instructions supplied with the grounding device, or through an alternate method if no device is used. It is also recommended to waterproof the cable jacket at this point to prevent moisture entry.
- Install Loadbreak Interface (Optional)
Clean and lubricate the entire loadbreak interface and either a DR(G), ESA, GLR, or LR of the appropriate voltage class with the supplied lubricant. Install the DR(G), ESA, GLR, or LR to the tap plug interface following the instructions supplied with those specific products.
- Verify Seating Indication
Confirm that the assembly of an insulated cap or elbow is complete by ensuring no portion of the colored interface sleeve is visible when viewed from the side.
- Perform Voltage Test (656CETP Only)
For 656CETP connectors, remove the test point cap with a hotstick, peeling it off at an angle. WARNING: The voltage test point is a capacitance device and not directly connected to the conductor; do not use conventional voltage measuring equipment. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for the meter used, testing with a suitable sensing device made for capacitive test points. Contamination or incorrect equipment can cause a false 'no voltage' indication; treat the elbow as energized until confirmed by other means. After testing, clean and lubricate the inside surface of the cap with silicone grease and replace it on the test point.
