How to Install the 61178 Connector
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing the 61178 connector for aluminum and copper conductors.

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound, TY-RAP® cable ties
- Prepare the cable
Strip the cable insulation to the length specified in Table 1, ensuring not to nick the cable strands.
- Insert the cable
Insert the stripped cable into the small hole end of the insulating cover and slide it until it is beyond the stripped cable area.
- Apply joint compound
Smear a thin layer of ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound on the cable and clean the surface with a wire brush or emery cloth.
- Insert the cable into the connector
Remove the protective cap from the connector barrel and insert the cable until it stops, ensuring the insertion length matches the stripped length.
- Crimp the connector
Select the correct installing die from Table 1, insert the connector in the die, and compress between color markings, starting near the tongue.
- Clean up
After crimping, remove any sharp edges, flashes, or burrs from the connector.
- Connect the lug
Connect the lug to the equipment as shown in the documentation.
- Secure the insulating cover
Slide the insulating cover onto the lug until it stops, and secure a TY-RAP® cable tie to the cable insulation flush with the back end of the insulating cover.
