This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and connecting the 60536 two-way splicer for aluminum or copper cables.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound
- Prepare the cable
Strip the insulation from the cable to the specified length in Table 1, ensuring not to nick any strands.
- Apply joint compound
Smear a thin layer of ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound on the stripped cable. Clean the cable with a wire brush or emery cloth to remove surface oxide.
- Insert the cable
Remove protective caps from the splice barrels and insert the cable into the connector until it stops, matching the insertion length to the stripped length.
- Crimp the connector
Insert the connector into the appropriate die and compress it according to the specifications in Table 1, starting near the center and working towards the end.
- Inspect the connection
After crimping, remove any sharp edges, flashes, or burrs from the connection to ensure safety and reliability.
- Insulate the connection
Use the insulation methods specified in Table 1 to properly insulate the connection.
