This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing copper high voltage terminals safely and effectively.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Crimping tool, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Copper high voltage terminals, Mounting screws, Cable ties, Hose clamps
- Prepare the cable
Train the cable into its final position and remove any excess cable from the end. Strip the cable jacket, shield, and insulation to the specified length as indicated in the installation chart.
- Insert the conductor
Insert the conductor fully into the connector barrel. Ensure that the conductor is properly seated to avoid any connection issues.
- Crimp the connector
Make the first crimp at the pad end of the barrel using the crimping tool. Crimp in overlapping steps toward the tapered end of the connector to ensure a secure connection.
- Ensure proper crimping
To ensure the connector is round and to avoid possible flash and ridges, rotate the crimping tool 90 degrees and repeat the crimping process.
- Secure the conductor
In case of basketing or birdcaging, tightly secure a hose clamp or cable tie to the bare conductor next to the connector before crimping to maintain the integrity of the connection.
- Verify connections
After crimping, use a multimeter to verify the integrity of the connections. Ensure there are no shorts or open circuits before powering up the system.
