How to Install T&B Liquid-Tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B Liquid-Tight Flexible Metallic Conduit (LFMC) Fittings, ensuring high performance and reliability.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32 teeth/inch) or Power Band Saw, Metal Jig, Wrench, Hammer, Standard Screwdriver
Supplies needed:
Liquid-Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LFMC), T&B Liquid-Tight Fitting (e.g., 9334-NB), T&B Series LNB Locknuts (if needed), T&B Series 5260 Seal Gaskets (if needed), Protective Gloves, Safety Glasses
- Prepare for Installation and Observe Safety
Before starting, read and understand all instructions and safety information. Disconnect power to prevent risk of shock. Wear protective gloves and safety glasses. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
- Cut the Liquid-Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LFMC)
Using a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 teeth/inch) or a power band saw (24-32 teeth/inch at max 400 ft/min), cut the end of the flexible conduit with a clean, square cut. DO NOT use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble the Fitting Components onto the Conduit
First, slide the gland nut onto the cut end of the flexible conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone into the conduit end.
- Install the Fitting into the Box Wall
Insert the assembled fitting into the knockout opening of the box wall. For knockout applications, use a T&B Series LNB locknut and a T&B Series 5260 seal gasket (purchased separately) on the inside of the box wall to secure the fitting.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut to the UL recommended torque value specified in the product table (e.g., 1600 lb-in for 9334-NB). Ensure a secure, liquid-tight connection.
- Secure the Locknut (if applicable)
If using a locknut, hand-tighten it, then further tighten it by an additional 1/4 turn using a hammer and a standard screwdriver, or an equivalent method, to meet UL, CSA, and NEMA recommendations.
