How to Install and Use the 272SOP Stand-Off Plug
A guide for the safe installation and operation of the 272SOP Stand-Off Plug, designed to isolate and "dead-end" 25kV class loadbreak elbow connectors.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Hotstick
Supplies needed:
Elastimold approved lubricant, Electrostatic grounding lead, Elastimold loadbreak elbow connector
- De-energize and Prepare for Installation
DANGER: Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before beginning installation or removal of parts. Inspect the 272SOP Stand-Off Plug and mating components for any damage, verify proper rating, and confirm compatibility. Read all instructions thoroughly and have all required tools and supplies at hand, maintaining cleanliness throughout the procedure.
- Ground and Lubricate the Stand-Off Plug
Connect an electrostatic grounding lead to the grounding lug on the stand-off plug. Connect the opposite end of the grounding lead to a reliable ground, ensuring enough slack to operate with a hotstick. Remove the protective cap, then clean and lubricate the stand-off plug interface using only an Elastimold approved lubricant. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE other lubricants as they may be harmful. Always replace the protective cap when the stand-off plug is not in use.
- Position the Stand-Off Plug in the Parking Stand
Rotate the eyebolt counterclockwise until the nut is in contact with the bracket. Firmly attach a full insulated hotstick to the eyebolt. Carefully slide the Stand-off Plug into the designated parking stand.
- Secure the Stand-Off Plug in the Parking Stand
Back off the hotstick. Rotate the eyebolt clockwise until the nut on the opposite end snugly wedges the stand-off plug to the underside of the parking stand. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE BOLT to prevent damage.
- Connect the Loadbreak Elbow Connector
CAUTION: Verify that the ground lead is securely connected between the stand-off plug lug and ground before proceeding; do not attempt to attach the ground lead after the elbow is assembled. Remove the ELASTIMOLD loadbreak elbow connector from its loadbreak bushing following its applicable operating instructions. Insert the male contact of the loadbreak elbow into the stand-off plug and push it home with a fast, firm, straight motion. Ensure it is firmly in place and the locking ring is properly seated.
- Verify Complete Assembly
Visually inspect the assembly. Complete assembly of an insulated cap or elbow is indicated when no portion of the yellow band is visible when viewed from the side.
