Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B liquidtight connector (e.g., 5330 Series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications), 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications), PVC cement (if needed)
- Prioritize Safety
WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of electric shock. Wear hand protection and eye protection during the installation process. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
- Prepare the Flexible Conduit
Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig (if available from conduit manufacturers) and a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth/inch, or a power band saw with 24-32 teeth/inch (not exceeding 400 feet/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble the Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series & PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the flexible conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit end.
- Install Connector to Box or Enclosure
Insert the connector body into the knockout opening of the box or enclosure. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately). Thread the locknut onto the connector body from inside the box and tighten it securely against the box wall. Ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box for 5371 series and 5365-5370 series.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut onto the connector body to secure the liquidtight flexible metal conduit. Refer to the provided torque table for the correct tightening torque based on the trade size of the fitting (e.g., 3/8" = 200 lb.-in., 1/2" = 300 lb.-in., 1" = 700 lb.-in.). Use a torque wrench for accurate tightening. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench to tighten; if gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended.
- Assemble Chase® Connectors (If Applicable)
For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies, the lock-up can be made by either tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple. Ensure the Chase® Nipple is positioned inside the knockout.
