Overview

The ABB TF42-35 (SKU: TF42-35) is a cost-effective electromechanical thermal overload relay designed for reliable main circuit protection of electric motors. This three-pole relay uses bimetal tripping elements that heat directly and indirectly from motor current, providing robust protection against overload and phase failure. It operates within Trip Class 10, ensuring fast and dependable response times critical for motor longevity. Key features include selectable manual or automatic reset, phase loss sensitivity per IEC/EN 60947-4-1, and integrated TEST and STOP functions with front-panel trip indication. Temperature compensation ensures consistent performance across ambient temperatures from -25 to +60 °C. The relay is suitable for both three-phase and single-phase applications and holds ATEX certification for hazardous environments. Designed for direct mounting onto ABB block contactors (AF09...AF38), the TF42-35 can also be installed on a 35 mm DIN rail using an optional single mounting kit. Electrical connection specifications include a main circuit rigid conductor capacity of 1 or 2 x 0.75 - 4 mm² and an auxiliary circuit rigid conductor capacity of 1 or 2 x 0.75 - 4 mm². Tightening torque for main circuit terminals is 1.5 - 2.5 Nm, and for auxiliary circuits is 1 - 1.2 Nm. The housing offers IP20 protection, with main circuit terminals at IP10. Maximum operating altitude is 2000 m, with resistance to shock (25g / 11 ms) and vibration (5g / 3-150 Hz). Ideal for industrial motor protection in manufacturing, HVAC systems, pumps, and conveyor applications, the TF42-35 delivers precise thermal overload protection with minimal maintenance requirements. Its compact design and compliance with international standards make it a dependable choice for OEMs and system integrators.
