Overview

ABB's K-Factor Transformer, SKU 9T11C1004G33, is engineered to manage the thermal and mechanical stresses introduced by harmonic content in electrical systems. This transformer is designed to withstand harmonic effects, not eliminate them, making it ideal for applications with non-linear loads. It features a grounded full-width copper electrostatic shield between primary and secondary windings, providing up to 120 dB common mode noise attenuation and up to 30 dB transverse mode noise attenuation. The core and coil assembly utilizes grain-oriented, annealed silicon steel and is mounted on neoprene isolation pads for vibration dampening. Neutrals and lugs are rated to handle 200% of the rated secondary full load current. Available with aluminum or copper windings and in all three temperature rise ratings, this unit meets DOE 2016 efficiency standards and is UL Listed and Energy Verified. It is qualified to seismic requirements of IEEE-693-2005, IBC-2021, and CBC 2022. Specific K-factor ratings are available, with K4 suitable for induction heating and SCR/AC drives (up to 50% harmonic load), K13 for institutional lighting in schools and hospitals (100% harmonic load), and K20 for data processing equipment and critical care facilities (60-100% harmonic load). This transformer is designed for applications such as data centers, industrial facilities, and commercial buildings where harmonic distortion is a concern, ensuring reliable operation and addressing temperature rise issues associated with non-linear loads. It does not introduce phase shifting. Lifting eyes are provided, and lug kits or copper ground bar kits are included on units up to 150 kVA. The core and coil assemblies are mounted on neoprene isolation pads for vibration dampening. The transformer does not reduce current harmonics but effectively withstands the mechanical stresses caused by harmonic content and addresses temperature rise issues when supplying non-linear loads. It is a non-phase shifting transformer. The unit includes a flexible copper ground strap (Type QL).
  • Withstands mechanical and thermal stresses from harmonic content.
  • Grounded full-width copper electrostatic shield for noise attenuation.
  • Neutrals and lugs rated for 200% of rated secondary full load current.
  • Meets DOE 2016 efficiency standards, UL Listed, and Energy Verified.
  • Qualified to IEEE-693-2005, IBC-2021, and CBC 2022 seismic requirements.
