Overview

Upgrade your industrial HMI enclosure positioning with the **nVent Syspend VL-Motion Arm Replacement Gas Springs (SKU: VLSPRINGS)**, precision-engineered to maintain optimal counterbalance force in demanding environments. Designed as a direct replacement for Syspend VL-Motion Arm systems, these gas springs ensure smooth, vibration-resistant operation while supporting loads between 30–100 lbs. Constructed from durable steel and polished to a high-quality finish, they integrate seamlessly with Hoffman HMI enclosures in NEMA Type 4 and 12 rated applications, where environmental sealing and mechanical reliability are critical. **Key Features and Benefits:** The VLSPRINGS gas springs are field-adjustable, allowing technicians to fine-tune the counterbalance force to match specific load requirements. Unlike fixed-pressure systems, these springs are pre-set to maximum pressure (100 lb. load capacity) but can be safely reduced via a sealed access cap on the top of the arm—though once reduced, the force cannot be increased. This flexibility makes them ideal for applications where load variations occur during operation or maintenance. The system includes a release handle that automatically locks the arm in place after vertical repositioning, eliminating drift caused by machine vibration—a common issue in industrial automation and control panels. **Engineered for Industrial Reliability:** The VL-Motion Arm system, compatible with Hoffman HMI enclosures using a 60×60 mm mounting pattern, delivers 13 inches of vertical height adjustment, enabling precise ergonomic positioning of operator interfaces. The arm’s 320-degree swivel capability and multiple mounting options—wall, machine-top, or post-top—provide installation versatility across diverse industrial settings, from control rooms to factory floors. An internal cable pathway (1.4 inches) maintains NEMA Type 4 and 12 enclosure ratings by protecting wiring from contaminants, while gasketed mounting surfaces at both ends preserve seal integrity in harsh or washdown environments. **Why Choose nVent for Motion Control Solutions?** As a trusted manufacturer in industrial motion and thermal management, nVent delivers products engineered for durability, safety, and performance. The Syspend VL-Motion Arm system, including the VLSPRINGS gas springs, reflects decades of expertise in designing solutions that enhance operator safety, reduce fatigue, and improve workflow efficiency in automation, manufacturing, and process control industries. Whether retrofitting existing systems or specifying new installations, professionals rely on nVent for components that meet rigorous industry standards and deliver long-term reliability. **Typical Applications:** - HMI and operator interface enclosures in manufacturing plants - Control panels in NEMA 4/12 environments (e.g., food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemical handling) - Machine-mounted displays requiring adjustable viewing angles - Workstations in automation and robotics cells - Retrofits to improve ergonomics and accessibility in legacy control rooms **Installation and Maintenance:** Installation is straightforward, with the gas springs designed to integrate directly into the VL-Motion Arm assembly. The sealed access cap allows for safe, tool-free adjustment of counterbalance force without disassembling the unit. For optimal performance, ensure the arm is mounted on a flat, vibration-dampened surface and that the enclosure’s gasket interfaces are clean and undamaged. Regular inspection of the gas spring seals and mounting hardware is recommended to maintain NEMA ratings and prevent ingress of dust or moisture. **Trust nVent for Motion Control Excellence:** With a global reputation for innovation and quality, nVent’s motion control solutions—including the VLSPRINGS gas springs—are built to withstand the rigors of industrial use. Whether you’re balancing a 30 lb. operator interface or a 100 lb. control panel, these gas springs provide the precision, adjustability, and durability required in modern automation environments. Choose nVent for components that keep your systems running smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

How to Replace Gas Springs in the SYSPEND™ Arm

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely replacing gas springs in the SYSPEND™ arm assembly.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Drift punch, Safety goggles

Supplies needed:

Replacement gas springs, Plastic bushings

  1. Raise and Support the Arm

Raise the arm to the up-most position and support it from below. Ensure no one is under the arm while servicing.

  2. Remove Axle A

Unscrew set screws 'A' and 'B' approximately five turns without removing them. With the arm unweighted, gently tap to remove axle 'A' and tilt the arm end away from the arm. Do not lose the plastic bushings.

  3. Remove Axle B and Cable

Remove axle 'B' with a gentle tap. Raise the arm cover to about 45° and secure it. Then, pull the release cable out of the black clevis and remove it through the slot.

  4. Replace Gas Springs

Unscrew set screw 'C' about four turns without removing it. Remove axle 'C' with a gentle tap and take out the old spring assembly. Install the new spring assembly.

  5. Reassemble the Arm

Reassemble the arm in reverse order, ensuring that the grooves on the axles accommodate the set screws.
