Overview

The nVent Quick Tray Pro Trapeze Hanging Clip (SKU: QTPTHBLK) is engineered for secure overhead support of Quick Tray Pro cable management systems in trapeze-hung installations. Constructed from durable black steel, this clip is designed to accommodate standard 1/4-inch or 3/8-inch threaded rod, which must be sourced locally. A key innovation is the integrated poly grommet that firmly retains the cable tray within the clip's slot. This grommet is designed to unsnap on one side, enabling convenient loading of cables into the tray without compromising the hanging system's integrity, significantly streamlining the installation process. The QTPTHBLK features a corrosion-resistant finish, ensuring longevity in demanding industrial environments such as data centers, manufacturing facilities, and power plants. Its robust steel construction provides substantial support for cable loads. The dimensions of each clip are 3.00 x 6.00 x 14.00 inches. This product is supplied in a convenient 50-pack.

How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray

A comprehensive guide for cutting, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, QTPBNWK Splice Kit, QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit (Black), QTPSSW3 Splice Washer, QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer (Black), QTPUS10 10 in. Universal Splice Bar, QTPUS10BLK 10 in. Universal Splice Bar, Black, QTP90TKIT T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar, QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar, Black

  1. Plan Your Cable Tray Layout and Identify Required Cuts

Before cutting any sections, determine the desired configuration of your QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray system. Review the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for any bends, elbows, tees, Y-junctions, width reductions, or level changes you intend to create. Mark the wires that must be removed or cut according to your planned layout to ensure accuracy.

  2. Cut Cable Tray Wires Using the Side Action Bolt Cutter

Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make all necessary cuts. For side wires, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. For bottom wires, turn the tray over, rest the cutting jaws on the cradle wire, and cut at an angle away from the new end. Ensure each cut is clean to eliminate grinding or touch-up, and to help protect the new cut from corrosion and minimize sharp edges that could snag wires.

  3. Form Bends, Elbows, or Tees as Required

Based on your planned layout, form the cable tray sections into the desired shapes. For a 90-degree bend, cut the specified wires, then smoothly bend the tray until the inside edges meet. For large radius bends, remove outside and bottom wires from alternating mesh sections and pull the ends on the uncut side towards each other. For elbows, 90-degree tees, or Y-junctions, cut both tray sections according to the specific patterns and align them at the desired angle. For width reduction or changing levels, remove appropriate side and/or bottom wires and bend the tray smoothly up or down.

  4. Secure Tray Sections and Bends with Splice Kits and Washers

Fasten connected tray sections, bends, and junctions using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For 90-degree bends, secure at the indicated locations. For elbows and 90-degree tees, use two splice kits and washers for each joint, or one centered kit for adjustable elbows. For Y-junctions, connect the side wires of the two trays and use splice kits and washers (one for 4 and 6 in. trays, two for 8 and 12 in. trays, and three for 16 in. and wider trays). Universal splice bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK) can be used for extra support or specific connections like width reduction.

  5. Install Supports for the Cable Tray System

Support straight sections of the cable tray typically at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and the span between supports should not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and ensure the system can safely bear the cable load.
