How to Fabricate and Install QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Systems
This guide provides essential instructions for cutting, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, QTPBNWK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3 Splice Washer, QTPUS10 Universal Splice Bar, QTP90TKIT T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar
- Plan Your Cable Tray Layout
Before any physical work, determine the required lengths, bends, and connection types (e.g., 90-degree, large radius, elbow, tee, Y-junction) for your specific cable routing needs. Review the appropriate cutting patterns for your chosen tray size and desired configuration from the manual.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. Identify and mark the wires to be removed according to your planned configuration. Begin by cutting the top side wire, positioning the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Proceed to cut the remaining side wires and then the bottom wires from the underside, always resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Ensure all cuts are clean to prevent sharp edges and corrosion.
- Form Bends or Changes in Level
To create a 90-degree bend, cut the side wires as per the specific pattern for your tray width, then smoothly bend the tray until the inside edges meet. For large radius bends, remove outside and bottom wires from every other mesh section. For changes in level, remove every other side wire section at the bend location from both sides of the tray. The number of removed sections determines the bend radius.
- Assemble Tray Sections with Connectors
Join prepared tray sections using Splice Kits (QTPBNWK) and Splice Washers (QTPSSW3). For straight connections, align the sections and fasten them securely. For elbows, tees, or Y-junctions, align the cut sections at the desired angle and use the appropriate Splice Kits, Splice Washers, and potentially Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10) or T-Connection Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT) as detailed in the manual for your specific connection type. Ensure all fasteners are tightened to provide stability.
