How to Install and Customize QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections, including the QTP6X8 model, to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC), Wrench
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTP6X8), Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90° Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK)
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to precisely cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections. Identify the wires to be removed based on your desired configuration (e.g., for bends or length adjustments). Begin by cutting the top side wire, positioning the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this process for all remaining side wires. Then, turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, always resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Ensure all cuts are clean to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.
- Form Bends in Cable Tray Sections
For a 90-degree bend, cut the necessary side and bottom wires at the bend location according to the cutting pattern for your specific tray width (e.g., QTP6X8). Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. For large radius bends, remove wires from the outside and bottom of every other mesh section at the bend location, then lay the tray flat and pull the ends on the uncut side towards each other. Secure all formed bends using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated fastening points.
- Join and Secure Tray Sections
Align the ends of the cable tray sections to be joined, whether for straight runs, elbows, or tees. Use QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers to securely fasten the sections together. For elbows, cut side wires from each tray according to the pattern, then align and fasten. For 90-degree tees, cut side wires from the top tray, then align and fasten using splice kits and washers, potentially with a QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection Splice Bar. For Y-junctions, cut both tray sections, bend side wires to 45 degrees, and connect using splice kits and washers, potentially with cut universal connectors. Ensure each splice washer covers at least two tray bottom wires where applicable.
