How to Install and Customize QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray (QTP6X24BLK)
This guide provides comprehensive instructions for cutting, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, including specific procedures for creating bends, tees, and reducing width, ensuring a custom and secure cable management installation.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bar, QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar, Cable tray supports
- Plan Your Cable Tray Layout and Identify Required Modifications
Before cutting or bending, carefully plan the entire cable tray route. Determine the required lengths of straight sections, the locations and types of bends (90-degree, large radius), tees (90-degree, Y-junction), and any width reductions needed. Refer to the specific cutting patterns in the manual for your tray size (QTP6X24BLK) and desired modification.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size and Shape
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. When cutting, position the jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion. For bends, tees, or width reductions, follow the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual, removing the indicated wires. Ensure one clean cut to avoid grinding or touch-up.
- Form Bends and Tees (If Required)
For a 90-degree bend, cut the side and bottom wires according to the pattern for your tray width, then smoothly bend the tray until the inside edges meet. For other configurations like large radius bends, elbows, or tees, follow the specific cutting and bending instructions in the manual. For a Y-junction tee, bend side wires to 45 degrees after cutting.
- Connect Cable Tray Sections
Join straight sections, bends, or tees using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For splice bars, use QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars or QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection Splice Bars as needed for extra support or specific connections. Ensure all connections are securely fastened.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install supports for straight sections at approximately 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Position supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. Ensure the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability.
