How to Modify and Connect QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections, such as the QTP6X22BLK, to create custom cable management pathways.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, QTPBNWK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3 Splice Washer, QTPUS10 Universal Splice Bar, QTP90TKIT T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar
- Plan the Cable Tray Configuration and Mark Cuts
Carefully plan the desired cable tray layout, including straight runs, bends, elbows, and tees. Refer to the manual's cutting patterns for specific tray sizes and bend types. Mark the wires to be cut on the cable tray sections according to your design.
- Cut Cable Tray Wires Using the Bolt Cutter
Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make clean, angled cuts away from the new end, starting with the top side wire, then remaining side wires, and finally the bottom wires. Ensure one clean cut to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.
- Form and Secure a 90-Degree Bend
To create a 90-degree bend, first cut the side and bottom wires at the desired bend location as per the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend by fastening with QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers at the indicated locations.
- Connect Cable Tray Sections with Splice Kits
Join straight or modified cable tray sections by aligning them as desired. Fasten the sections together using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For additional support or when joining different tray sizes, incorporate QTPUS10 Universal Splice Bars, cutting them to fit if necessary, and secure them with additional splice kits and washers.
- Install Supports for the Cable Tray System
Install supports for the cable tray system. For straight sections, place supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and load capacity.
