How to Install and Modify QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, joining, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections, including the QTP6X18BLK model, to create a custom cable management system.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter (QTPBC), Measuring Tape, Marker
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections (e.g., QTP6X18BLK), Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK), Cable Tray Supports, Fasteners for Supports
- Plan Cable Tray Layout
Determine the required path for your cable tray system. Review the cutting patterns for desired bends, tees, or width reductions based on your specific QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray size (e.g., QTP6X18BLK) and the intended installation.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. First, decide which wires must be removed for your desired modification (e.g., bend, tee, or length adjustment). Cut the top side wire at an angle away from the new end, resting the jaws on the cradle wire. Repeat for remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, ensuring clean cuts to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.
- Form Bends or Connect Tray Sections
To create a 90-degree bend, cut the side and bottom wires at the desired location following the provided patterns for your tray width. Bend the tray smoothly until the inside edges meet, then secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. To connect straight sections or form elbows/tees, align the tray sections and fasten them together using the appropriate Splice Kits, Splice Washers, and Splice Bars (e.g., QTPUS10 Universal Splice Bar or QTP90TKIT T-Connection Splice Bar) as required by your design.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Mount supports for straight sections at approximately 6-foot (1.5m) intervals. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports must not exceed the length of a single tray section. Provide additional supports around all bends and wherever the cable tray changes levels to ensure stability and proper load distribution.
