Overview

The nVent Quick Tray Pro Wire Mesh Cable Tray System (SKU: QTP6X16BLK) is a high-performance, black steel cable management solution designed to route, support, and protect cables in commercial, industrial, and data center environments. Engineered for durability and flexibility, this 6.00" x 16.00" x 120.00" straight section provides a robust framework for organizing power, data, and communication cables while maintaining accessibility for future modifications or maintenance. The open-mesh design promotes superior airflow, reducing heat buildup and extending cable lifespan, making it an ideal choice for high-density installations where thermal management is critical. As part of the Quick Tray Pro series, this system is built to meet the rigorous demands of modern infrastructure projects. The black powder-coated steel construction ensures corrosion resistance and long-term performance in challenging environments, including warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and telecom rooms. Unlike solid-bottom trays, the wire mesh design allows for easy cable insertion and removal without the need for disassembly, significantly reducing installation and maintenance time. This system is particularly well-suited for applications requiring frequent reconfiguration, such as data centers, hospitals, or educational institutions where technology upgrades are common. Professionals in electrical contracting, IT infrastructure, and industrial automation rely on the Quick Tray Pro system for its modularity and ease of integration with other nVent components. The 120-inch length provides efficient coverage for long runs, while the 6" x 16" dimensions offer ample space for bundling multiple cables without overcrowding. Installation is streamlined thanks to the system’s pre-engineered design, which includes compatible fittings, brackets, and accessories for seamless integration into any layout. Whether used in new construction or retrofit projects, the Quick Tray Pro Wire Mesh Cable Tray System delivers a scalable solution that adapts to evolving infrastructure needs. nVent, a trusted leader in electrical and thermal management solutions, backs the Quick Tray Pro system with decades of expertise in cable management innovation. The company’s commitment to quality and compliance with industry standards (such as NEC and UL) ensures that this product meets the highest safety and performance benchmarks. For engineers, electricians, and facility managers seeking a reliable, high-capacity cable tray system, the QTP6X16BLK offers unmatched versatility, durability, and value. How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray System

This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections, such as the QTP6X16BLK, including creating various configurations and properly supporting the installed tray.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter (QTPBC)

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTP6X16BLK), Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK), Cable tray supports

  1. Plan Cable Tray Layout

Determine the required configuration for your cable tray system, including straight runs, bends, elbows, and tees. Review the specific cutting patterns and connection methods described in the manual for each desired modification. Consider cable fill ratios and support requirements before proceeding.

  2. Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size

Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make cuts at an angle away from the new end. Ensure one clean cut to minimize sharp edges that could snag wires and to help protect against corrosion. Repeat this process for all side and bottom wires as needed for your planned configuration.

  3. Form Bends, Elbows, or Tees

To create 90-degree bends, cut the specified side and bottom wires according to the cutting patterns, then smoothly bend the tray and secure it with QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For elbows or tees, cut the necessary wires from the respective tray sections, align them at the desired angle, and fasten them securely using the appropriate Splice Kits and Splice Washers. Refer to the specific cutting patterns and fastening details for each type of connection.

  4. Connect Straight Cable Tray Sections

Join straight cable tray sections or connect modified sections using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Ensure all connections are tight and secure to maintain the structural integrity of the cable tray system. If additional support is needed for tray sides, incorporate QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars as required.

  5. Install Cable Tray Supports

Install supports for straight sections at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Place supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, ensuring the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure the stability and safety of the entire system.
