- Plan Cable Tray Layout
Determine the required configuration for your cable tray system, including straight runs, bends, elbows, and tees. Review the specific cutting patterns and connection methods described in the manual for each desired modification. Consider cable fill ratios and support requirements before proceeding.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make cuts at an angle away from the new end. Ensure one clean cut to minimize sharp edges that could snag wires and to help protect against corrosion. Repeat this process for all side and bottom wires as needed for your planned configuration.
- Form Bends, Elbows, or Tees
To create 90-degree bends, cut the specified side and bottom wires according to the cutting patterns, then smoothly bend the tray and secure it with QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For elbows or tees, cut the necessary wires from the respective tray sections, align them at the desired angle, and fasten them securely using the appropriate Splice Kits and Splice Washers. Refer to the specific cutting patterns and fastening details for each type of connection.
- Connect Straight Cable Tray Sections
Join straight cable tray sections or connect modified sections using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Ensure all connections are tight and secure to maintain the structural integrity of the cable tray system. If additional support is needed for tray sides, incorporate QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars as required.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install supports for straight sections at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Place supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, ensuring the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure the stability and safety of the entire system.
