How to Customize and Assemble QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections

This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections to create custom configurations, including straight cuts, 90-degree bends, and splicing techniques.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter (QTPBC)

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray sections, Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK)

  1. Plan Your Cable Tray Layout

Determine the required configuration for your cable tray system, including straight sections, bends, and junctions. Carefully review the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for each desired modification to ensure correct wire removal.

  2. Cut QUICK TRAY PRO™ Sections

Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to make precise cuts. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. Start with the top side wire, then cut the remaining side wires, and finally turn the tray over to cut the bottom wires. Make one clean cut to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.

  3. Form a 90-Degree Bend

At the planned bend location, cut the side and bottom wires as indicated by the cutting pattern for your specific tray width. Turn the tray onto its uncut side and smoothly bend it upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers.

  4. Splice Tray Sections

To join two tray sections, align their wires at the desired angle. Fasten the sections together using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For a standard joint, use two splice kits and washers per joint. For an adjustable elbow, use one splice kit and washer, centered over two tray bottom wires.

  5. Install Cable Tray Supports

Position straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) intervals. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and the span between supports does not exceed the tray length. Provide additional supports around all bends and wherever the cable tray changes level to maintain stability.
