How to Modify and Connect QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections to create a customized cable management system.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter
Supplies needed:
QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bar, QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar
- Plan Your Cable Tray Layout
Before making any cuts, thoroughly plan the entire cable tray route, including all straight sections, bends, tees, and changes in level. Review the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for each required modification based on your tray's width and desired shape.
- Cut Cable Tray Wires
Use the QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter to make precise cuts. Start with the top side wire, positioning the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this process for all remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, ensuring the cutting jaws rest on the cradle wire and cuts are angled away from the new end. Make one clean cut to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.
- Form Bends or Tees (as required)
For a 90-degree bend, cut the wires as indicated in the manual, then smoothly bend the tray until the inside edges meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For other configurations like large radius bends, elbows, 90-degree tees, or Y-junction tees, follow the specific cutting and bending instructions provided in the documentation, utilizing the appropriate splice kits and bars for secure connections.
- Connect Tray Sections
Join adjacent cable tray sections or modified segments using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For enhanced support and stability, especially on tray sides, incorporate QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars or QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection/90o Splice Bars, fastening them securely with the splice kits and washers.
- Install Supports for the Tray System
Position straight section supports typically at 6-foot (1.5m) intervals. Ensure that supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports must not exceed the length of a single tray section. Provide additional supports around all bends and wherever the cable tray changes levels to maintain structural integrity.
