Overview

The nVent Quick Tray Pro Wire Mesh Cable Tray System (SKU: QTP4X22BLK) is a high-performance, open-style cable management solution designed to route and support electrical and data cables in commercial, industrial, and institutional environments. Engineered for flexibility, durability, and ease of maintenance, this 4.00" x 22.00" x 120.00" black steel straight section provides a robust framework for organizing cables while maximizing airflow and accessibility. As part of nVent’s trusted Quick Tray Pro line, this system delivers unmatched versatility for professionals who require reliable cable support without sacrificing system adaptability. Cable tray systems like the Quick Tray Pro are essential in modern infrastructure where cable density and organization are critical to operational efficiency. Unlike enclosed conduit systems, wire mesh cable trays offer superior ventilation, reducing heat buildup and extending the lifespan of insulated cables. The open design also simplifies inspections, modifications, and additions, making it ideal for environments where future upgrades or reconfigurations are anticipated. This system is particularly well-suited for data centers, manufacturing facilities, healthcare campuses, and large-scale commercial buildings where high volumes of cables must be managed safely and efficiently. Key features of the nVent Quick Tray Pro Wire Mesh Cable Tray System include its corrosion-resistant black powder-coated steel construction, which provides long-lasting protection against environmental factors such as moisture, chemicals, and abrasion. The 4" x 22" profile offers a generous capacity for routing power, data, and control cables while maintaining a low-profile footprint that minimizes space consumption. The 120" length of each straight section allows for efficient installation with fewer joints, reducing labor time and potential points of failure. Compatible with a full range of Quick Tray Pro accessories—including tees, crosses, elbows, and vertical risers—this system can be customized to fit virtually any cable routing requirement. Professionals in electrical contracting, facilities management, and industrial automation rely on nVent’s Quick Tray Pro for its ease of installation and system-wide compatibility. The modular design enables rapid deployment, whether for new construction or retrofitting existing infrastructure. Installation typically involves mounting the tray sections to walls, ceilings, or support structures using compatible nVent hardware, followed by cable placement and securing with ties or clips. The open-mesh design also facilitates thermal management, which is critical in high-power applications where overheating can compromise system performance. nVent, a global leader in electrical and thermal management solutions, brings decades of expertise to the Quick Tray Pro line. Known for innovation and reliability, nVent’s products are engineered to meet stringent industry standards, including NEC (National Electrical Code) and UL certifications. The Quick Tray Pro system is no exception, offering compliance with safety and performance requirements for a wide range of applications. Whether you’re managing power distribution in a factory, supporting IT infrastructure in a data center, or organizing cables in a hospital, the nVent Quick Tray Pro Wire Mesh Cable Tray System provides a scalable, durable, and cost-effective solution for professional cable management.

How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray

This guide provides instructions for cutting, forming, connecting, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections, such as the QTP4X22BLK, to create custom cable management installations.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter (QTPBC), Measuring Tape, Marker

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTP4X22BLK), Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK)

  1. Plan Your Cable Tray Configuration

Determine the required layout for your cable tray system, including straight runs, bends, elbows, and tees. Review the appropriate cutting patterns and connection methods for each section based on your desired configuration and the specific tray size you are using.

  2. Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size and Shape

Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts, which minimizes sharp edges and helps protect against corrosion. First, decide which wires must be cut according to your planned configuration. Starting with the top side wire, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this process for all remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, always resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Ensure each cut is clean to avoid grinding or touch-up.

  3. Form Bends, Elbows, or Tees as Required

To create a 90-degree bend, cut the specified wires at the bend location for your tray size, then smoothly bend the tray until the inside edges meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For large radius bends, elbows, 90-degree tees, Y-junction tees, or width reductions, follow the specific cutting and assembly instructions provided in the manual, utilizing appropriate splice bars (e.g., QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK, QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK) and splice kits.

  4. Connect Cable Tray Sections

Join different cable tray sections using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For added support and stability, especially when connecting tray sides, use QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars, cutting them to fit if necessary. Ensure all connections are securely fastened to maintain the structural integrity of the cable tray system.

  5. Support the Cable Tray System

Install supports for straight sections at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure that supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and the span between supports should not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure stability and proper load distribution.
