How to Customize and Install QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP4X18BLK Cable Tray
This guide provides instructions for cutting, forming bends, and connecting sections of the QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP4X18BLK cable tray to create a customized cable management system.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray (e.g., QTP4X18BLK), Splice Kit (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washer (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK)
- Plan Layout and Cut Cable Tray Sections
Review the cutting patterns for your desired bends or connections. Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precision cuts, minimizing sharp edges and protecting against corrosion. Start by cutting the top side wire at an angle away from the new end, resting the jaws on the cradle wire. Repeat for remaining side wires, then turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, ensuring clean cuts.
- Create a 90-degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut all side wires according to the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend by fastening with QTBNWK/QTBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Connect Cable Tray Sections
Align the sections of cable tray to be connected, whether straight sections, bends, or tees. Use QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers to securely fasten the sections together. For specific connections like elbows or tees, refer to the detailed diagrams for the number and placement of splice kits and washers. Ensure each splice washer is positioned over two tray bottom wires when forming adjustable elbows.
- Support the Installed Cable Tray
Install supports for straight sections at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure that supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports must not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around all bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and integrity.
