How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Systems
This guide provides comprehensive instructions for cutting, bending, connecting, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections, including the QTP4X16BLK, to create custom cable management installations.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter, Wrench
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTP4X16BLK), QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars, QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bars
- Plan Your Cable Tray Layout
Before making any cuts or modifications, thoroughly plan the entire cable tray configuration. Identify all required straight sections, bends, elbows, tees, and level changes. Refer to the manual's cutting patterns for specific tray sizes and desired modifications to ensure accurate planning.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut cable tray sections to the planned lengths and shapes. Always position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Begin by cutting the top side wire, then proceed to the remaining side wires, and finally cut the bottom wires from the underside. Ensure each cut is clean to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.
- Form Bends, Elbows, or Tees (as needed)
To create a 90-degree bend, cut the specified wires according to the manual's pattern for your tray width, then smoothly bend the tray until the inside edges meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For elbows or tees, follow the specific cutting patterns for each tray section, align them at the desired angle, and fasten securely with splice kits and washers. Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK) or T-Connection Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK) may be required for certain configurations to provide additional support.
- Connect Cable Tray Sections
Join all prepared cable tray sections using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Ensure that all bolts, washers, and nuts are securely fastened to provide a stable and continuous cable pathway. For enhanced stability, especially on longer runs or complex junctions, incorporate QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars, cutting them to length if necessary, and attach them firmly to the tray sides using additional splice kits and washers.
- Support the Installed Cable Tray System
Install appropriate supports for the cable tray system. For straight sections, place supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure that a support is located within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports should not exceed the length of a single tray section. Provide additional supports around all bends, elbows, tees, and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure the entire system is robust and stable.
