How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray (QTP4X12BLK Series)
This guide provides comprehensive instructions for cutting, bending, joining, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO cable tray sections, including the QTP4X12BLK series, to create a customized cable management system.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray sections, QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars, QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bars
- Plan Cable Tray Layout and Mark Cuts
Determine the desired cable tray configuration, including straight runs, bends, elbows, and tees, to fit your installation requirements. Review the cutting patterns provided in the manual for your specific tray size and desired modification (e.g., 90-degree bend, elbow, tee). Mark the wires that need to be cut on the tray sections.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. For each marked section, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire of the top side wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this process for all remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, always resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Make one clean cut to minimize sharp edges and prevent cable snagging.
- Form Bends and Joins
Form bends by smoothly bending the tray after cutting, as described for 90-degree or large radius bends. Join tray sections to create straight runs, elbows, or tees by aligning the cut sections. Secure all connections using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For specific configurations like 90-degree tees, utilize the QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection Splice Bar. For reducing width or creating Y-junctions, use QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars as needed.
- Support the Cable Tray
Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports must not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure stability and proper load distribution.
