How to Install and Modify QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray
This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and connecting sections of the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray system to create custom cable routing solutions for various applications.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter, Measuring tape, Marker
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars, QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bars, Cable tray supports
- Plan the Cable Tray Layout
Before cutting or bending, plan the complete cable tray layout, including straight sections, bends, elbows, and tees. Refer to the cutting patterns provided in the manual for specific tray sizes and desired modifications to ensure proper fit and function.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Using the Hoffman side action bolt cutter, make precision cuts. First, cut the top side wire at an angle away from the new end, resting the jaws on the cradle wire. Repeat for remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, ensuring a clean, angled cut to minimize sharp edges that could snag wires and to protect against corrosion.
- Create a 90-Degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut all side wires and then the bottom wires according to the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for stability.
- Connect Tray Sections
To connect straight sections or form elbows and tees, align the tray sections at the desired angle. Fasten the sections together using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits (three-piece staked bolt, washer, and nut) and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For adjustable elbows, use one splice kit and washer centered over two bottom wires for flexibility.
- Support the Cable Tray
Install supports for straight sections at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and ensure the system can safely bear the cable load.
