How to Install and Modify nVent HOFFMAN QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray
This guide provides essential step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, and joining nVent HOFFMAN QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections, such as the QTP2X6BLK, to create custom cable management pathways. Learn to form straight sections, bends, elbows, and tees for your installation.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections, QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bar, QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar
- Plan Tray Configuration and Identify Cuts
Before cutting, decide on the desired cable tray configuration, including bends, elbows, or tees. Review the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for your tray size and desired shape. Mark the wires that need to be removed (often indicated as red areas in diagrams).
- Cut Cable Tray Wires
Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) for precision cuts. Start with the top side wire, positioning the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Repeat for all remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires, ensuring the cutting jaws rest on the cradle wire and cuts are angled away from the new end. Make one clean cut to avoid grinding or touch-up.
- Form a 90-Degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut all side and bottom wires according to the 90-degree bend pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Join Cable Tray Sections
To connect straight sections or secure formed bends/elbows/tees, align the tray sections as required. Use QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers to fasten the sections together. For additional support or specific configurations like Y-junctions or width reductions, incorporate QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars or QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection Splice Bars as per the manual's instructions, ensuring all fasteners are securely tightened.
