How to Install and Connect QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides instructions for cutting and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray straight sections to create custom cable management pathways, including various bends and tees.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTP2X22BLK), Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK, as needed), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK, as needed)
- Plan Cable Tray Layout and Identify Cuts
Before cutting any sections, determine the desired configuration for your cable tray system, including straight runs, 90-degree bends, large radius bends, elbows, tees, or width reductions. Review the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for your tray size and chosen modification. Mark the wires that need to be removed or cut according to the selected pattern.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size
Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Start by cutting the top side wire, then proceed to cut the remaining side wires. Finally, turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire. Ensure each cut is clean to minimize sharp edges that could snag wires and to help protect against corrosion.
- Connect Cable Tray Sections Using Splice Kits
Align the ends of the cable tray sections to be joined, ensuring they fit together as planned. Use QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers to securely fasten the sections. For straight connections, ensure splice washers are properly positioned over the tray wires. For more complex configurations like bends, elbows, or tees, refer to the specific diagrams in the manual for correct hardware placement, quantity, and the potential use of Universal Splice Bars or T-Connection Splice Bars.
