How to Assemble and Modify QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Systems
This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, including the QTP2X18BLK model, to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections, Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Cable Tray Supports
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precision cuts on the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end for all side and bottom wires. Make one clean cut to eliminate grinding or touch-up and minimize sharp edges that could snag wires.
- Form a 90-Degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut the necessary side and bottom wires according to the cutting pattern for your specific tray size. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend by fastening with QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations.
- Form an Elbow by Connecting Tray Sections
To create an elbow, cut the side wires from each tray section following the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Fasten the joint using two QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers for each joint. Ensure each splice washer is positioned over two tray bottom wires for secure connection.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install straight section supports typically at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability.
