How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP2X16BLK Cable Tray
This guide provides instructions for modifying, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP2X16BLK cable tray sections to create custom installations, including various bends, tees, and width reductions.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter, Wrench
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP2X16BLK Cable Tray sections, QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits, QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers, QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars, QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bars
- Plan Cable Tray Layout
Before cutting or bending, determine the required cable tray configuration. Review the appropriate cutting patterns for desired bends, tees, or elbows based on your tray size and installation needs. Consider cable fill ratios and support requirements for the planned layout.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to make precise, flush cuts on the cable tray wires. Always position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion. Make one clean cut for each wire to eliminate grinding or touch-up.
- Form 90-Degree Bends
To create a 90-degree bend, cut all side wires at the desired bend location according to the cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using Splice Kits and Splice Washers.
- Connect and Secure Tray Sections
Join tray sections, bends, or tees using QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Fasten the components securely with the provided three-piece staked bolt, washer, and nut. For additional support or specific configurations like Y-junctions or width reductions, utilize QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars or QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection Splice Bars as required.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and the span between supports must not exceed the length of the tray. Add additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and comply with load requirements.
