This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the IW4000 Infrared Window onto a flat surface of a type 4/12 enclosure, including drilling and mounting procedures. Comply with local and national safety requirements when working in hazardous locations.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Hydraulic punch or hole saw (95 mm - 95.5 mm (3-3/4 in.)), Drill, Conedrill, Pozidrive screwdriver, Center punch, 6 mm (1/4 in.) drill bit, 3.6 mm (9/64 in.) drill bit
Supplies needed:
IW4000 unit, Fixing screws (4), Drilling template, Degreaser
- Unpack and Inspect Components
Carefully unpack the IW4000 unit and verify all contents are present: one IW4000 unit, four fixing screws, and one drilling template.
- Prepare Mounting Surface
Confirm the desired position for the IW4000 unit on a flat surface of a type 4/12 enclosure. Peel off the backing from the drilling template and firmly stick it to the panel, aligning with the template reference points.
- Mark and Drill Pilot Holes
Using a center punch, mark the positions for the fixing holes and the center hole as indicated on the template. Then, use a 6 mm (1/4 in.) twist drill to drill out the center pilot hole.
- Drill Fixing Holes
Using a 3.6 mm (9/64 in.) twist drill, carefully drill out the four fixing holes marked on the template.
- Enlarge Center Hole
Enlarge the center hole to 95-95.5 mm (3-3/4 in.) using either a hole saw (guiding with the 6 mm pilot hole) or a hydraulic punch. If using a hydraulic punch, refer to its manual and follow all safety procedures.
- Clean and Prepare Panel
De-burr all drilled holes, remove any metal shavings, and peel off the self-adhesive drilling template. Thoroughly degrease the front panel surface where the window will be mounted.
- Mount the Infrared Window
Align the fixing holes on the IW4000 unit with the drilled holes on the panel and firmly press the Infrared Window into place.
- Secure the Window
Using a Pozidrive screwdriver and three of the four supplied countersunk screws, gradually tighten each screw in an alternating pattern. Advance each fixing until a torque setting between 0.5 – 1 lbf.ft (0.68 – 1.36 N.m) is achieved, ensuring the unit is securely fastened. To maintain the enclosure type rating, ensure the viewport cover is secured in place.
