This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and setting up the OptiCam 2 Termination Tool for fiber optic connector terminations.

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Size AA Energizer L91 batteries, Cleaning wipes, Launch cords, Cradle
- Insert the batteries
Remove the battery cover on the rear of the tool and insert two size AA Energizer L91 1.5v Lithium Iron Disulfide batteries, ensuring correct alignment.
- Prepare the tool
Remove the protective film from the camera aperture and LCD screen. Power up the tool by clicking once on the center of the selector switch and select your preferred language.
- Set up the termination parameters
Select the correct launch cord, cradle, and tool settings for your connector type. Ensure to save your selections before proceeding.
- Clean the launch cord
Remove the adapter and alignment sleeve from the launch cord. Clean both ends of the launch cord thoroughly before loading it onto the tool.
- Load the connector
Insert the connector into the appropriate adapter and cradle. Ensure it is properly seated and aligned before proceeding.
- Strip the fiber
Slide the boot onto the cable, then strip the buffer in 1/8” (3mm) increments up to the strip mark on the buffer.
- Cleave the fiber
Cleave the bare fiber to a length of 7mm using the cleaver tool. Ensure the cleave is clean and precise.
- Insert the fiber
Insert the fiber into the rear of the connector until the insertion mark aligns with the rear of the connector.
- Cam the connector
While maintaining forward pressure on the fiber, cam the connector according to its type (LC, SC, or ST) until it fully stops.
- Perform Insertion Loss calculation
Click the selector switch once to perform the Insertion Loss (IL) calculation. If the connector passes, proceed to the next step.
- Finalize the termination
Remove the connector from the tool, replace the dust cap, and slide the boot onto the rear of the connector.
