Overview

The NSI Industries SGB-390CL is a 4-inch zinc die cast insulated grounding split bushing designed for efficient wire pulling and secure grounding. This bushing simplifies installation by allowing it to be installed after the wire pull, eliminating the need to burn through traditional bushings or struggle with pullers. Its split design and integral grounding lug ensure a robust connection and prevent loss of parts. The zinc die cast construction offers durability, while the insulated surface is rated for 150°C, reducing wire drag and abrasion. This bushing accommodates a wire range of 14 AWG to 1/0 AWG CU/AL, reducing inventory needs by covering multiple lug sizes. It is suitable for use with threaded or threadless rigid and intermediate metal conduits (IMC). The mounting screw features a cone point and nylon locking patch for a secure, vibration-resistant fit. This product enhances ground continuity and protects conductor insulation during pulls, making it an ideal choice for tight spaces, corners, and multiple conduit runs. UL File #E3060 and CSA File #LR2884 certified, conforming to UL 514B & UL 467 and CSA C22.2 No. 18 & CSA C22.2 No. 41 standards. SKU: SGB-390CL.

How to Install the Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing

This guide details the installation of the Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing, a UL Listed component for threaded Rigid or Intermediate Metal Conduit and fittings. Its unique split design allows for installation after conductors have been pulled, ensuring compliance with NEC Articles 250.64, 250.92, 344.46, and 300.4(G).

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver

Supplies needed:

Grounding or bonding conductor

  1. Position the Bushing

Open the Mighty-Bond™ split bushing and carefully place it around the existing conductors. Position the bushing onto the threaded end of the Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC), Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC), or fitting.

  2. Close and Align the Bushing

Ensure the set screw is backed out sufficiently. Close the Mighty-Bond™ bushing halves fully around the threaded conduit or fitting. Align the bushing to easily access the set screw, grounding lug, and hinge screw. Verify the bushing is seated as far down on the conduit or fitting threads as possible.

  3. Secure the Bushing

First, tighten the hinge screw. Then, tighten the set screw. If applicable, tighten the enclosure bonding screw. Ensure all these screws are tightened to the UL Torque requirement of 35 in-lb.

  4. Connect the Grounding Conductor

Insert the appropriately sized grounding or bonding conductor into the bushing's lug. Tighten the lug screw according to the UL Recommended torque specifications: 35 in-lb for 10-14 AWG Copper/10-12 AWG Aluminum, 40 in-lb for 8 AWG, 45 in-lb for 4-6 AWG, and 50 in-lb for 2/0-3 AWG.
