Overview

The NSI Industries SGB-38840 is a 3-inch Insulated Grounding Split Bushing designed for efficient wire pulling and secure grounding. This zinc die-cast bushing accommodates a lug range of 6-250 kcmil, providing a versatile solution for various electrical installations. Its split design allows for installation after the wire pull, eliminating the need to burn through traditional bushings or struggle with pullers, thereby saving significant time and effort. The integral grounding lug ensures better ground continuity and is designed not to fall off or get lost, simplifying the installation process. The bushing features a rounded insulator surface to reduce drag and prevent abrasion during wire pulling, enhancing cable protection. Its mounting screw with a nylon locking patch and cone point ensures a secure fit on both threaded and non-threaded rigid conduits, resisting loosening from vibration. This design reduces inventory needs by accommodating an extended range of conduit types and ground wire sizes. UL 467 Listed for grounding and bonding, this bushing is suitable for direct burial in earth or concrete. It is rated for 150°C/302°F applications with a 94V-O flammability rating. The SGB-38840 offers superior ground continuity and a lasting bond, making it an ideal choice for demanding electrical applications.

How to Install the Mighty-Bond Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing

Install the Mighty-Bond Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing on threaded Rigid or Intermediate Metal Conduit (RMC/IMC) or fittings. This unique design allows installation after conductors are pulled, ensuring code compliance.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver

Supplies needed:

Grounding or bonding conductor

  1. Open and Place Bushing

Open the Mighty-Bond split bushing and place it around the conductors onto the threaded end of the RMC, IMC, or fitting.

  2. Close and Align Bushing

Close the Mighty-Bond bushing and align it to access the set screw, grounding lug, and hinge screw. Ensure the set screw is backed out sufficiently for the halves to close fully and that the bushing is as far down on the conduit or fitting threads as possible.

  3. Tighten Bushing Screws

Tighten the hinge screw first, followed by the set screw. If applicable, tighten the enclosure bonding screw. Tighten all screws to UL Torque requirements of 35 in-lb.

  4. Connect Grounding Conductor

Insert the appropriate sized grounding or bonding conductor into the lug. Tighten the lug screw according to the UL Recommended torque table: 10-14 AWG (Copper) / 10-12 AWG (Aluminum) to 35 in-lb; 8 AWG to 40 in-lb; 4-6 AWG to 45 in-lb; 2/0-3 AWG to 50 in-lb.
