Overview

The NSI Industries PT4/0 Stranded Bi-Metallic Pin Terminal (SKU: PT4/0) is a UL 486B-listed, 600V-rated terminal designed specifically for terminating aluminum conductors in industrial and commercial electrical systems. This terminal features a tin-plated stranded copper pin for superior conductivity and corrosion resistance, ensuring reliable electrical connections in high-vibration or harsh environments. The connector bores are pre-coated with an oxide inhibitor to prevent oxidation and maintain low contact resistance over time, critical for aluminum conductor applications where oxidation is a common failure point. Supplied with an EPDM insulating cover, the PT4/0 provides strain relief and additional protection against environmental factors such as moisture and dust. The terminal is rated for 4/0 AWG stranded aluminum conductors and is compatible with standard pin-type terminal blocks, making it ideal for use in motor control centers, switchgear, and other high-current applications. With a temperature rating of 90°C (AL9) and a maximum voltage of 600V, this terminal meets the stringent requirements of UL 486A/B standards. The PT4/0 is part of NSI Industries' PT Series, which is known for its robust construction and ease of installation. The terminal is designed for use with the N1240 crimp tool, ensuring consistent and secure terminations every time. Whether you're working on a new installation or retrofitting existing systems, the PT4/0 provides a dependable solution for aluminum conductor termination.

How to Install NSI PT/PTS/PTO Pin Terminals

Install and crimp NSI PT, PTS, or PTO series pin terminals on the correct cable size. Select the proper connector, prepare the conductor, and crimp it using the specified die and number of crimps.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Wire stripper, Wire brush, Approved crimping tool, Correct die set for the selected terminal size

Supplies needed:

NSI PT, PTS, or PTO pin terminal, Appropriate cable/conductor, Connector barrel

  1. Select the correct terminal and die

Choose the NSI PT, PTS, or PTO connector that matches the cable size being installed. Verify the required strip length, die number, and number of crimps from the chart before starting. Use only tools and dies listed for the selected terminal size.

  2. Strip and clean the conductor

Carefully strip the insulation from the conductor to the specified length without nicking the strands. Wire brush the stripped conductor to remove oxide films, and make sure the exposed conductor is clean before insertion. Safety warning: Do not damage or reduce the conductor strands during stripping.

  3. Insert the conductor fully into the barrel

Insert the stripped conductor completely into the connector barrel so it fills the barrel fully. Verify that the conductor is seated all the way in and that no strands are left outside the barrel.

  4. Crimp the connector

Install the crimp(s) using the correct die and tool for the terminal series. Apply the exact number of crimps shown in the chart for the selected connector size, and complete all required crimps evenly.

  5. Verify the finished connection

Inspect the completed termination to confirm the conductor is fully inserted and the crimp is secure. Ensure the installation complies with national and local electrical codes and is performed by a qualified electrician. Safety warning: Follow all electrical safety practices and do not install if the connector or die selection is uncertain.
