Molded Junction Box, Length 4 Inch x Width 4 Inch x Depth 2 Inch, Material Polycarbonate, Color GrayHow to Install and Crimp NSI Copper Compression Connectors
Install NSI copper compression lugs or splices by selecting the correct connector size, preparing the conductor, and crimping it with the approved tool and die set. Follow the strip-length and crimp-location guidance to ensure a secure, UL-approved connection.
Tools needed:
Wire brush, Approved crimp tool (NSI M-250, NSI M-500, NSI N12ID, or NSI N1240 as applicable, Approved dies for the selected connector and conductor size
Supplies needed:
NSI copper compression connector (lug or splice) sized for the conductor, Copper conductor cable, Insulation to be stripped from the conductor
- Select the correct connector
Choose an NSI lug or splice that matches the conductor size and application. Verify that the connector series and barrel style are appropriate for concentric, compressed, or compact copper conductors, and confirm the required strip length from the chart before starting.
- Prepare the conductor
Carefully strip the insulation to the specified length without nicking or damaging the strands. Wire brush the stripped conductor to remove oxide films, then make sure the exposed copper is clean and ready for insertion.
- Insert the conductor fully
Insert the stripped conductor completely into the connector barrel so the barrel is fully filled. Do not leave exposed strands outside the barrel, and verify the conductor is seated all the way in before crimping.
- Crimp with the approved tool and die
Use the approved NSI crimp tool and matching die set for the connector size, or use the NSI N12ID/N1240 tool where applicable. Crimp at the manufacturer-suggested barrel markings, and make the number of crimps shown for the connector series; long-barrel lugs and splices require twice the number of crimps shown in parentheses.
- Verify the finished connection
Inspect the crimped connection to confirm it is secure, properly aligned, and fully compressed. Ensure the conductor cannot be pulled out and that the connector was crimped only at the specified locations.
