Install the correct ASC400T aluminum compression connector on a compatible conductor, prepare the wire properly, and crimp it to the manufacturer’s specifications. Follow the strip-length and crimp-location guidance to ensure a secure, code-compliant connection.
Tools needed:
Wire stripper, Wire brush, Approved crimp tool (NSI N12ID dieless crimp tool or compatible UL-approved tool, die set as required by the connector series)
Supplies needed:
ASC-T series aluminum compression connector, Compatible conductor sized to the connector chart, Oxide-free cleaned conductor end
- Select the correct connector size
Choose the proper ASC-T lug or splice connector for the conductor size you are installing. Verify that the wire range, color code, and strip length match the chart before starting. Do not use a connector that does not match the cable size.
- Strip the conductor to the specified length
Carefully strip the insulation from the conductor without nicking or damaging the strands. Strip only enough so the conductor can be completely inserted into the connector barrel and fill it fully. Use the strip length listed for the selected wire size.
- Clean the stripped conductor
Wire brush the stripped portion of the conductor to remove any oxide film. Make sure the exposed conductor is clean before insertion, since contamination can reduce connection quality and conductivity.
- Insert the conductor fully into the barrel
Insert the cleaned conductor completely into the connector barrel until it is fully seated. Confirm that the stripped portion is completely inside the barrel and that no bare conductor is left exposed beyond the connector.
- Crimp the connector at the marked locations
Use the approved crimp tool and apply the number of crimps specified for the connector series and wire size. Follow the barrel markings for suggested crimp locations when using NSI N12ID and N1240 tools. For splice connectors, apply the required number of crimps per side.
- Verify the finished connection
Inspect the completed crimp to confirm the connector is secure, properly aligned, and fully compressed. Ensure the conductor cannot be pulled out and that the installation matches the manufacturer’s crimp and tool requirements.
