How to Install the SS1-INSK Service Disconnect Kit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the SS1-INSK Service Disconnect Kit, including cable preparation, connector crimping, and final assembly. Ensure all apparatus are de-energized and follow all applicable electrical codes and safety rules during installation to prevent electric shock.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Cable cutters, Wire strippers, Crimping tool (with appropriate dies)

Supplies needed:

SS1-INSK Service Disconnect Kit, Silicone grease, Two phase cables (line side and load side)

  1. Prepare the Rocket and Cables

De-energize all apparatus before proceeding. Cut the Rocket at the designated cut ring to match the size of the cable being used. Cut the two phase cables (line side and load side) to the desired overall length, typically cutting off approximately 2-1/2 inches. Strip and pencil the ends of both cables as shown in Figure 2.

  2. Prepare the Line Side Connection

Apply silicone grease to the stripped end of the line side cable. Insert the greased line side cable into the Rocket. Attach the receptacle connector to the prepared line side cable. Crimp the receptacle connector firmly onto the cable using a crimping tool with the appropriate die marked on the connector, as depicted in Figure 4.

  3. Prepare the Cap and Load Side Connection

Cut the Cap tips at the designated cut ring to match the size of the cable being used. Apply silicone grease to the stripped end of the load side cable. Insert the greased load side cable into the Cap. Attach the pin connector to the prepared load side cable. Crimp the pin connector firmly onto the cable using a crimping tool with the appropriate die marked on the connector, as depicted in Figure 6.

  4. Assemble the Connectors

Install the insulator securely onto the pin connector, as shown in Figure 7. Carefully insert the pin connector into the receptacle connector, ensuring a proper and secure connection, as illustrated in Figure 8.

  5. Final Assembly of the Splice Cover

Apply silicone grease to the Cap. Push the Rocket and Cap firmly together until the Rocket seats completely on the Cap stop ring. This combined assembly is now referred to as the splice cover, as shown in Figure 9.
