How to Install HLT Series Hazardous Location Fitting for TC Tray Cable in LTFMC
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing an HLT series fitting with an integral seal for Type TC Tray Cables within a Liquid Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LTFMC) using SC4-KIT-1 liquid sealant in hazardous locations.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, Mixing tool for sealant, Support for conduit, Wrench or Channel locks
Supplies needed:
HLT Series Fitting (HLT075), Type TC Tray Cable, Liquid Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LTFMC), SC4-KIT-1 Liquid Sealant, Fiber damming material, Sealing tape
- De-energize Circuits and Prepare Cable
CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Before starting installation, verify that all circuits are de-energized. Remove the jacket from the end of the cable to expose the working length required inside the enclosure or device. Remove all cable fillers and clean individual conductor insulation. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation.
- Pack Fiber Damming Material
Tightly pack the fiber damming material into all voids between conductors and between conductors and the cable jacket.
- Spread Grounding Conductors and Disassemble Connector
Where applicable, spread the strands of uninsulated grounding conductors. Disassemble the connector, then slide the gland nut and sealing ring onto the conduit. Slide the ground cone onto the cable and thread it into the Liquid Tight Flexible Metal Conduit (LTFMC) until it is tight.
- Apply Sealing Tape
Apply the supplied sealing tape over the cable jacket approximately 1/2 inch from the end. Build the diameter of the tape slightly larger than the inside diameter of the ground cone.
- Seat Cable into Ground Cone
Push the cable back into the ground cone with a slight twist until only half the width of the applied sealing tape is exposed.
- Insert Cable into Insert and Secure Assembly
Insert the cable into the insert until the grounding cone is fully seated. Secure the conduit and insert assembly in a vertical position, adequately supporting the conduit (not the insert) to prevent it from sliding out of the insert.
- Mix and Dispense Sealing Compound
Mix the sealing compound according to the instructions provided on its package. Dispense the compound into the end of the insert until the level stabilizes and fills to the top. Wait approximately 1 hour for the compound to solidify.
- Mount Body and Secure Insert
Mount the body of the fitting in the desired location. Place the encapsulated insert into the body and secure it in position by tightening the gland nut until it bottoms on the insert, ensuring metal-to-metal contact.
